Why opal

Opals have a soft, watery shimmer that cubic zirconia and crystal can't quite replicate. They look romantic without trying, dreamy without being twee, and they pair beautifully with both warm metals (gold, rose gold) and cool ones (silver, white gold). One of our most-loved stones, and for good reason.

About our opals

We use lab-created opals — same chemical composition as natural opals, same color shift, more affordable, and ethically sourced. Each one is hand-set into the piece, which means the color flicker is consistent piece-to-piece (natural opals vary wildly).

How to layer opal

Opal plays nicely with almost anything. Stack opal climbers with plain silver huggies. Pair opal studs with a celestial pendant. Mix opal cuffs with rainbow or pride pieces for a dreamy-bright contrast. The only combination we don't recommend is two big opal statement pieces in the same ear — opals shimmer best when they have plain pieces next to them to let the color show.

Care notes

Opals are softer than diamonds and don't love sudden temperature changes. Take them off before showers and swims, store them in their pouch (not loose in a bag with car keys), and they'll keep their shimmer for years. A soft cloth wipe brings the shine back if it dulls.
